One of the greatest recent improvements in furniture has taken place within the motion upholstery category. That’s right, power reclining sofas, loveseats, and chairs. I equate the advent of power upholstery with power windows in automobiles. Today it is the exception to get an automobile without power windows, within a few more years; I predict it will be the exception to get motion furniture without power. Even in the last year the availability of power motion furniture has tripled.
Some advantages of power reclining furniture are:
- Limitless number of positions. Upright, fully reclined, partially reclined, and doesn’t matter.
- Easy or operate. Ladies, ever struggle closing the foot rest on a piece? Nearly every female customer we have struggles with the foot rest. Some don’t even realize they are doing it until I point it out. Then they are like “yea, you are right.”
- Works equally well regardless of body type or weight. 100 lbs. to 350 lbs., doesn’t matter, the operation is mechanical, not spring or gravitational.
- Reliability. So far, reliability with electric has been 100%.
The only disadvantage that exists with electric is you are limited to where in the house it goes. Motors add weight to an already heavy piece of furniture so manipulating up stairs and down stairs is a problem. If you need to get a piece in a bonus room, down stairs finished basement, then mechanical is the way to go. Mechanical comes in sections. Think of a sofa as two recliners and a center piece bolted to a metal rail that forms a sofa. So separating these pieces and transporting anywhere in your home is possible. The backs even remove. Matter of fact, we can deliver mechanical sofas into customers’ homes where a traditional sofa would never fit. Power has cords and connectors that prevent the separation of pieces from each other. The farthest separation you can get is removing the back.
