Understanding Leather Categories, NOT GRADES.

Posted by on Feb 10, 2012 in Leather Furniture, Product Information | 0 comments

For years the furniture industry has misleadingly tried to represent leather by assigning grades to it.  For instance, company A assigns a grade of 25 to leather, company B assigns grade 90 to the same leather.  Which has a higher perceived value?  The 90 of course.  NOT TRUE.  To accurately represent leather, the term grade is wrong and I will explain why.  The leather we show in our store is all 100% top grain leather.  This means that the outer portion of a beef cow’s hide is used to produce the leather cover.  Nothing else, just...

Posted by on Dec 14, 2011 in Leather Furniture, Product Information, Tips & Advice | 3 comments

Split: All leather hides have to be split because a hide is too thick to upholster or use in any type of manufacturing. The...

Leather sofa thump test.

Posted by on Dec 2, 2011 in Leather Furniture, Product Information | 16 comments

In this video, we wanted to show you the difference in construction methods between a “big box store sofa? and our  Violino and Natuzzi.  All Violino and Natuzzi pieces are reinforced on all sides.  You will never find a hollow stretched piece of leather or one stretched over cardboard as in the video. Many of our competitors stretch leather over hollow frames.  This construction method is cheap, not long lasting, and generally of very low quality.  So I would encourage everyone to look at the sides and back of...

Understanding Warranties

Posted by on Nov 5, 2011 in Leather Furniture, Product Information, Tips & Advice, Wood Furniture | 0 comments

Big box stores love to advertise “lifetime” warranties.   The idea is that when a consumer hears the word “lifetime” they will think that carries more weight than 5- or 10-year warranty.  This would be true if “lifetime” warranties were not limited and prorated.  Let’s dig a little deeper. There are two general types of warranties, pro-rated and non-prorated.  A typical non-prorated warranty offers full coverage on parts and labor for a limited time, usually for 5 or 10 years.   The time frame varies by item and...

Five items to check before purchasing any sofa.

Posted by on Nov 5, 2011 in Leather Furniture, Product Information, Tips & Advice | 0 comments

What are the five items you must have on any sofa you purchase?  It’s simple.  The answer is LEGS!  That’s right, whether leather, fabric, vinyl, micro fiber, or bonded fabric leather (which is what big box stores carry, and will be discussed in a future article).  It’s a proven fact that all long-lasting frames have a center support to make the best frames even stronger. Here’s something you might hear our competitor say:  “The only reason five legs are used is because it compensates for a weak frame”.  This is simply not...
